The town

Siatista is built in a mountainous area on the austral slope of the Velia mountain on an average height of 930 metres.

Siatista is a small rural town in Kozani regional unit, West Macedonia, Greece. The 2011 census recorded 5.490 residents in the town. It is the seat of Voio Municipality. It consists of two continuing neighbourhoods "Gerania and Hora". In each separate place dominates a belfry, which signifies and determines morphological elements, which compose the towns (Siatista’s) two traditional masts.

The narrow paths give you the impression that you have been trapped in an isolated place enclosed around bare mountains. Searching for independence and faith the first inhabitants came to this difficult of passage area. The sterile grounds drew them to cultivate vineyards and leather and fur processing as well as external and internal trade. Nowadays, many young people choose not to study and work on these traditional jobs, sometimes never leaving their homeland. It is really important to implement international projects in the countryside because there are not many opportunities for local youth.
