On 13/12/2023, the 2nd High School of Kozani got the “GREEN BOX” from the 3rd High School of Kozani. A special chapter begins for the students of the school, within the framework of the “Green out of the Box” project. This was the last stop of the box for 2023, as the “green box” remained at the 2nd GEL Kozani during the Christmas Holidays.

The delivery of the box took place during a small event at the 2nd GEL of Kozani, where a group of students and teachers from the 3rd GEL of Kozani presented the results of the challenge they undertook, which included the creation of 4 plant logos. They delivered the “GreenBox” to the students of the 2nd GEL of Kozani, continuing the chain by adding another school.

The handover ceremony was followed by interactive trainings based on GreenComp for both students and teachers.

The challenge for the 2nd GEL Kozani’s was to create 4 artworks on the theme of the environment. The instructions from the 3rd GEL Kozani students who came up with the challenge included the following:

“After deciding what material you will use to capture your idea, you are divided into groups. Each team member takes on part of the challenge. For example, someone will gather the materials, someone will paint, someone will glue. Once you have gathered what you need, you begin “setting up” the project, which is completed in the allotted time. Throughout, you take photos to show the progress of the action. We hope you enjoy the process, learn and become even more aware of environmental issues, feel that the climate crisis concerns us all and that our attitude can positively influence it. ATTENTION: whatever you use from nature, should be material that nature has rejected. E.g., do not cut leaves from the trees but pick up dry leaves that have fallen.”

Within two weeks and with the support of their teachers, the students of the 2nd GEL successfully responded to the challenge by creating 4 paintings on the theme of the environment.

In addition, GO Alive, supported the teachers and students by providing guidance and training sessions through “GreenComp” during the exciting two-week challenge. Two volunteers from our organisation revisited 2nd GEL on 21/12/23 to observe the implementation of the artwork challenge and to support the students to plan the next challenge for Neapolis High School. One of the non-formal learning techniques followed in the meeting is goal setting with SMART goals to enable students to create a challenge that is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant to the topic and within the time frame of our project.

The journey of “Green out of the Box” continues outside the city of Kozani, giving smaller schools the opportunity to participate in the project, promoting sustainability education and lifelong learning, ensuring a lasting impact on future generations leading to sustainable societies!
