In 2024, GO Alive welcomes its first long-term international volunteers, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s journey. This pioneering group of three volunteers hails from three different continents, infusing GO Alive with a vibrant, truly global atmosphere. With the European Solidarity Corps quality label accreditation, GO Alive is empowered to host and receive volunteers from across the globe, extending its reach beyond Europe and fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
In the first official “Time for Truth” workshop, we began by delving into two significant topics: the experience of burnout and the challenges of procrastination. These themes were thoughtfully selected by our international volunteer from Hungary, who led the summer workshop with great insight and dedication. Their unique perspective helped shape the discussion, providing valuable insights into how these issues impact our daily lives and how we can address them effectively.
The workshop was dedicated to young people seeking support for social, mental, or other challenges? Our weekly workshop offered a safe space to share experiences, seek help from the community, and collaborate on finding solutions.
Whether participants needed advice or simply a listening ear, they found a supportive community of peers who understood what they were going through.
🙌🏼 Many joined the community on a journey of personal development, connecting, sharing, and supporting one another!
After the initial session on burnout and procrastination, we also organized an enriching Arabic language workshop, which was skillfully led by our youth worker from Morocco. This workshop provided participants with a deep dive into the Arabic language and culture, fostering greater understanding and appreciation.
At the end of the program, those who successfully completed the workshop were presented with certificates, acknowledging their hard work and commitment to mastering new skills.
Given the cultural and culinary similarities between Türkiye and Greece, our international volunteer from Türkiye took the initiative to lead an engaging workshop focused on his home country. During the session, he highlighted the shared aspects of food, traditions, and language between the two nations, illustrating just how closely connected they are. Participants were fascinated to learn about the commonalities, including the fact that some words in both languages are identical. This workshop not only deepened our understanding of Türkiye but also emphasized the strong cultural ties that unite these neighboring countries.
The workshop explored the cultural similarities between Greece 🇬🇷 and Türkiye 🇹🇷, focusing on shared traditions in food, hospitality, music, dance, language, and more. Each week, participants delved into a different cultural aspect, from the similarities in cuisine and welcoming customs to the rich musical and dance traditions like Syrtaki and Halay.
The sessions also highlighted linguistic connections, examining shared words and historical influences. By the end, participants gained a deeper understanding of the intertwined heritage and lasting bonds between the two nations.
