The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange “Trees and Peace” brought together young people from all across Europe to Oviedo, a charming city nestled in Spain’s Asturias region. Organized by GO Alive and co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, this program empowered youth to actively engage in environmental education, reflection, and activism through immersive, non-formal learning.
The central goal of the project was to increase the motivation and skills of young people in the fight against climate change. Through interactive workshops, group discussions, and hands-on activities, participants explored the real impact of human action on the environment from pollution and resource use to sustainable agriculture and biodiversity.
The exchange encouraged young people to reflect critically on their daily choices and empowered them to become active contributors to environmental protection within their communities.
“This was my first program and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
In the program we learned through alternative learning several concepts related to the environment, such as environmental activism and ecological footprint.
We also met people from different countries and exchanged ideas and opinions on various topics and of course, food!
The experience took place in the lovely village of Marinas in the Asturias region of Spain. I can’t wait for my next program!”
“The trip to Oviedo was my first participation in an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange and the impressions it left on me were very positive.
I gained a lot of knowledge about environmental issues especially how our daily actions contribute to pollution, agricultural strain, eutrophication, and water scarcity.
This helped me better understand climate challenges like the drought problem affecting the Doñana National Park.
I also met people from all over Europe with whom I shared meaningful and beautiful moments.
The accommodation was excellent and the hospitality from Tilos Asociación made everything even more special. I’m really looking forward to joining another exchange soon.”
This project wasn’t just about environmental education it was about building connections, fostering awareness, and inspiring a new generation of eco-conscious young people. Participants didn’t just learn about climate action; they lived it, shared it, and brought it home with them.
