Youth Exchange Mindfulness For Youth

The Erasmus+ project Youth Exchange  titled “Mindfulness for YOU(th)” was conducted from October 2nd to 11th, 2023, in the  town of Eani, Kozani, Greece.

The Erasmus+ “Mindfulness for YOU(th)” youth exchange, held from October 2nd to 11th, 2023, in Eani, Kozani, Greece, was an immersive experience focused on personal development, mindfulness, and cultural exchange. Each day was carefully structured to combine insightful workshops, engaging outdoor activities, and moments of deep reflection.

The program began with an energizing breakfast, setting a positive tone for the day. Icebreaker games helped participants bond quickly, as they shared unique adjectives that matched their names and morning routines. This early interaction fostered a sense of camaraderie that would deepen throughout the week.

The days were filled with diverse activities. For instance, participants took part in outdoor challenges using a phone app that required them to navigate the town, answer questions, and collect points. This not only encouraged physical activity but also allowed them to explore the local area and create a sense of adventure within the group.

Workshops played a central role in the project. Participants explored the concept of mindfulness through various exercises, such as mindful listening, where they learned to fully engage with a partner without interruption. The Ikigai chart exercise prompted deep introspection, asking participants to consider their passions, skills, and what they love, often leading to emotional realizations about their life’s purpose.

Afternoons often included physically engaging activities like Olympic Games, which emphasized teamwork and healthy competition. Reflection sessions at the end of each day allowed participants to process their experiences, discuss their feelings, and share insights, further reinforcing the group’s bond.

Cultural exchange was another highlight. Participants enjoyed intercultural evenings where they shared traditional foods, dances, and games from their respective countries. These evenings, such as the one between Estonia and Portugal, offered a joyful exploration of different cultures, strengthening cross-cultural understanding and friendships.

Excursions to local sites, including a visit to the Kozani Library and the Museum of Eani, provided a deeper connection to the region’s history and culture. The project also integrated mindfulness practices into these outings, with activities like the 5 senses meditation held in a park, which encouraged participants to fully immerse themselves in the present moment.

One of the more profound activities was led by the Estonian team, where participants engaged in exercises that pushed them out of their comfort zones, like staring into each other’s eyes to foster a deeper connection. Another emotional exercise involved reflecting on the most painful thing they had ever been told, which was shared anonymously. This activity led to a powerful bonding experience, as participants realized the commonalities in their struggles and strengths.

Evenings often featured social activities, including a bonfire night, which provided a relaxed atmosphere for participants to unwind, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company.

Despite the intensity of the program, there were moments of light-heartedness, such as a night out at a local bar where some participants broke from the mindful routine to enjoy the local nightlife. The project maintained a balance between deep personal development and enjoyable social interactions, making it a holistic experience that left a lasting impact on everyone involved.

The “Mindfulness for YOU(th)” project was not just about learning and reflection; it was about creating a supportive community where participants could grow together, explore new ideas, and form meaningful connections that extended beyond the duration of the project.
