From April 8th to 16th, 2025, young people from across Europe gathered in Izmir, Türkiye, for an inspiring Erasmus+ Youth Exchange: “Keep Your Memory Alive.” This unique experience focused on raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease, promoting empathy toward older generations, and fostering intergenerational connection through non-formal education and cultural exchange.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in meaningful discussions, cultural visits, and interactive workshops. They deepened their understanding of dementia, healthy aging, and inclusive communities while forging international friendships and memories.

Magda shared:
“I was lucky enough to have the chance to participate in the ‘Keep Your Memory Alive’ Erasmus+ project in Izmir, Turkey, this April. We learned about Alzheimer’s and the importance of empathy towards older generations through engaging activities such as visiting nursing homes, presenting our health system, and organizing our own interactive workshops.
What truly made this experience unforgettable for me were the amazing friendships we built across countries, sharing incredible moments together. Erasmus+ is a unique opportunity that changes your perspective and your heart, opens your mind, and creates lifelong memories and friendships.”
Anastasia reflected:
“My participation in the ‘Keep Your Memory Alive’ program in Izmir was a memorable experience for me! Through the program, I learned a lot about Alzheimer’s, its prevention methods, and how to manage the disease. Additionally, I got to know the city and tried local foods and sweets. Together with the other participants, we became a group and created memories and friendships!”
Maria added:
“My participation in the Erasmus+ ‘Keep Your Memory Alive’ program on Alzheimer’s in Izmir, Turkey was an unforgettable experience. I had the opportunity to collaborate with people from different countries, exchange knowledge and best practices related to dementia care, while also getting to know the culture and hospitality of Izmir.
The presentations, workshops, and visits to local organizations were excellently organized and offered me valuable insights and new perspectives. It was truly moving to see everyone’s shared interest in improving the quality of life for people living with the disease.”
This project showed how powerful youth work can be in tackling complex topics like aging and dementia. Participants left not only with new skills and knowledge, but also with deep personal connections and a renewed sense of purpose.
