From 22nd to 29th May 2024, young participants from across Europe gathered in the peaceful village of Trescleoux, France, to take part in the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange: “From Earth to Plate”. This project, co-funded by the European Union and implemented with the aim of promoting sustainability and intercultural dialogue, brought together youth in a week of hands-on learning, outdoor discovery, and shared experiences.
During the exchange, participants were immersed in a rich and nature-based learning process focused on sustainability and cultural awareness. Through interactive workshops, outdoor activities and team cooperation, they explored:
– The importance of sustainable practices and food systems
– Traditional crafts, permaculture, and eco-conscious living
– Intercultural dialogue as a tool for mutual understanding
– Nature as a space for self-reflection, collaboration, and connection
They baked bread, crafted with natural materials, explored the nearby forests, and shared meals under the sky creating a strong sense of community and purpose. Participants were encouraged to rethink their relationship with the environment and explore alternative, respectful ways of living.
Elisavet shared:
“My experience at Erasmus+ in Trescleoux, From Earth to Plate, was remarkable. I met inspiring people and felt connected to nature. I discovered myself and I learned a lot about other countries.”
Michail reflected:
“The youth exchange that took place in Trescleoux was a great experience on all levels. The content was educational, the activities creative and dynamic and the people brimming with positivity. It felt right to disconnect from the bustling city for a week and spend time in this peaceful, green place.”
Hoya noted:
“We have reached out a point of connection with the body, the others, the environment and the world that follows me in the urban way of life. I am grateful for the tools and the people I met.”
Ageliki added:
“My participation in the program ‘From Earth to Plate’ was something unprecedented. It was a unique experience as we managed to connect with nature, once we stayed for a week in a wonderful natural landscape, to connect with each other as well as with ourselves.”
The Youth Exchange offered more than environmental education it created a safe space for building friendships, exchanging traditions, and growing as active, responsible citizens. In a remote rural setting, surrounded by forests and mountains, participants found a new rhythm one rooted in simplicity, respect, and collaboration.
They left not only with knowledge, but with a renewed mindset, fresh motivation, and a deep appreciation for the planet and each other.
