The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange “From Citizen… Sheep to Citizenship” focused on increasing young people’s motivation to take part in democratic life and develop a sense of European citizenship. The specific objectives were.
– Raise awareness of the rights and responsibilities of European citizens and encourage participation in elections (especially the European Parliament).
– Promote active engagement of youth in political and social life, strengthening their European identity.
– Introduce non-formal education tools (videos, theater, simulations, etc.) as innovative methods to reduce abstention in national and European elections.
The Journey
The adventure began at Athens International Airport, where the Greek team boarded a flight to Romania. Upon arrival in Bucharest, participants had a short opportunity to explore the city before heading to the hotel in Sarata Monteoru, a traditional accommodation with warm and welcoming hosts that instantly made everyone feel at home.
The days flew by as the group engaged in collaborative learning, hands-on constructions, and meaningful discussions around the theme of citizenship. Between the educational sessions, coffee breaks offered moments to connect, exchange experiences, and enjoy a variety of snacks both traditional and international.
For the final two nights, the group moved to Buzau, staying at a more modern hotel located in town. There, they continued to enjoy their stay, delicious food, and meaningful reflection on their learning journey.
What Participants Had to Say
“It was an amazing experience that we highly recommend. Everything was flawless from the organization and logistics to the accommodation and the connection with our coordinators. We truly felt part of a European community.”
This project wasn’t just a cultural exchange; it was a civic awakening. Participants deepened their understanding of how their voices matter in shaping the future of Europe. By using creative and participatory tools, they explored ways to combat apathy and inspire civic action in their own communities.
