24/05 – 01/06/2024
From the 24th of May to the 1st of June 2024, the charming town of Pignola, Italy, hosted the Youth Exchange “Differently Athletics” – a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme and the European Union.
This Youth Exchange brought together young people from across Europe to explore the power of inclusion, physical activity, and environmental awareness through the lens of sports. During this enriching journey, participants engaged in workshops, physical challenges, cultural exchanges, and deep personal reflection.
The main goals of the project were to:
– Promote physical activity among young people by encouraging a healthier and more active lifestyle.
– Raise awareness of environmental issues and the importance of protecting the natural world.
– Foster social and athletic inclusion of all young individuals, regardless of background or ability.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of southern Italy, the group explored the intersection of nature, movement, and intercultural dialogue. Hikes in the hills, creative games, group discussions, and community activities created space for connection, fun, and self-discovery.
Nektaria:
“To be honest, this Erasmus was quite unexpected and it was something beyond the usual. However, the connection of the people of the group and the good mood of all of us made it unforgettable. I am sincerely grateful for the people of my group.”
Giorgos:
“Our time in Pignola was truly interesting. We had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in local customs and engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. I had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful people and thoroughly enjoyed my time there.”
Nikos:
“It was my first Erasmus+ project and it turned out to be an incredibly interesting experience, far different from what I had imagined. Despite the surprises, it was amazing, and I wouldn’t change a thing. It offered me a new perspective on human interactions and pushed me out of my comfort zone in a fun and exciting way.”
Sindy:
“It was my first Erasmus and it was quite eventful. Despite the difficulties and the conditions we faced, I would never change my team. We were so different from each other, and that’s why we overcame every difficulty and had fun in our own way.”
Chara:
“My first Erasmus+ project will forever be unforgettable. I made new friends and learned about the way of living in Italy. Even if the weather and the accommodations were not that great, we always managed to entertain ourselves and to have fun. It taught me things about myself and for sure evolved me as an individual.”
What made “Differently Athletics” so impactful was the genuine human connection and joy of shared experiences. The diversity of the group, the immersion in nature, and the challenges faced along the way created memories that will last a lifetime.
This project wasn’t just about physical activity it was about belonging, inclusion, and growth. From early morning hikes to heartfelt conversations, each day brought a new opportunity to learn, move, and evolve.
