Η ιογενής ηπατίτιδα αποτελεί τεράστιο πρόβλημα δημόσιας υγείας.
Στην Ελλάδα υπολογίζεται ότι 200.000 άνθρωποι είναι φορείς της ηπατίτιδας Β. Εκτιμάται ότι περισσότερα από 100.000 άτομα πάσχουν στη χώρα μας από ηπατίτιδα C, εκ των οποίων 75.000 δεν το γνωρίζουν.
Ο εμβολιασμός έναντι της ηπατίτιδας Β έχει συμπεριληφθεί στο Εθνικό Πρόγραμμα Εμβολιασμού της χώρας μας και είναι ο μόνος αποτελεσματικός τρόπος για την πρόληψη της νόσου.
Η ηπατίτιδα C είναι σήμερα ιάσιμη με τα νέας γενιάς φάρμακα.
